Performance and Durability
The Gladiator mechanical street sweeper has been designed to live up to its strong name. At the heart of its strength is the sweeper frame. Rather than utilizing an industry standard single frame on the sweeper unit, the Gladiator features an ultra rugged double-frame measuring at 11 inches in height. This ensures a long unit life despite years of abuse on the job-site.
Powering the Gladiator is an incredibly dependable Isuzu diesel engine, boasting 215 hp and 560 lb ft of torque. This provides for enough power to get to job sites faster, easily traveling at highway speeds. Meanwhile, the sweeper system is run by a 5 cylinder John Deere Power Tech engine with 99 hp and 243 lb ft of torque. Both engines are world renowned for their dependability and extensive service network. Transferring all that raw power to the road is its two-speed rear axle, which allows for slower operating speeds and better sweeping performance.
Sweeping Prowess
Bells and whistles don't mean anything unless the truck can sweep well. The Gladiator solves this basic issue with its dual 44" gutter brooms, a 60" main broom, and a 340 gallon water tank. With a total sweep path of 11 feet and well over 4 cubic yards of material volume in the hopper, the Gladiator cleans more for a longer period of time.
The Gladiator also features recessed direct drive hydraulic motors on the gutter brooms to protect the relief valve seals. This means that twine, string, and branches won't be able to wrap around the broom and damage the motor-- saving thousands in repair costs and downtime.
The conveyor has also been designed to increase its life and serviceability. Rather than replacing an entire conveyor, the Gladiator has separate squeegee type flights that are removed and replaced on an individual basis. This saves both money and down-time. The conveyor is driven by a very durable rubber belt system. Holes in the belt correspond to teeth mounted on the drive cogs. These cogs have been engineered much larger and more efficient than the competition in order to increase conveyor strength and belt life.
Keeping Kool
The Gladiator's hydraulic system features the ultra-efficient Hydra-Kool system. A compact cooler, filter, and reservoir unit all-in-one, the Hydra-Kool unit removes the dependency on large hydraulic reservoir tanks. Thanks to its built-in hydraulic driven fan, the Gladiator only requires a 20 gallon hydraulic reservoir. The temperature is kept cool and is closely monitored by an electronic sensor. As the final component this incredible system, a hi-flow integral 10 micron filter ensures clean fluid and a healthy operating system.
Refined Conveniences
More power doesn't mean less comfort. The Gladiator has found a way to match raw power with creature comforts. It all starts with the standard Hendrickson rear air suspension system. The air suspension absorbs more shock and provides for smooth driving at highway speeds. The Gladiator also features standard air-ride type bucket seats, which compensate for those unexpected bumps in the road.
Adding the optional 3 color camera system with LCD flat screen display allows for greater visibility, safety, and easier operation. The "west coast" style side mirrors and mirror mounted cameras provide two alternatives to leaning out of the window and watching the gutter brooms. Furthermore, these methods reduce the pain and fatigue caused by leaning into a "bubble" and are also safer because your eyes are pointed towards what's ahead.
Trouble shooting becomes much easier with the Gladiator's multi-plexed system. Integrated with the multi-plexing is a CANBUS system that reduces wire clutter Diagnostic LEDs at the sending unit locations alert the operator to errors and malfunctions. Meanwhile, the remote diagnostics and vehicle data network interface allow for a smarter way to identify issues and solve them.
Mated to the CANBUS multi-plexing system is the Gladiator's custom control panel with LCD display and on-screen diagnostics. The display is mounted as part of a cluster unit with toggle switches controlling the sweep functions. The control system also features a single button that is able to initiate the entire sweeper system when pressed. All of this means easier operation, less fatigue, and more importantly less mistakes. The Gladiator's system gives operators all the tools they need to get the job done right the first time.
Bottom Line
The Gladiator is an all-around dependable work horse. Contractors and city managers alike will appreciate its strength and reliability. And operators will love its ease of use and driver comfort. Keeping the streets clean is a dirty job, and the Gladiator is best suited for the challenge. |
